Callesella: Wood Furnitures with a natural Soul

At the Callesella plants in Cison di Valmarino, Treviso, they have started thinking about it over three years ago: this period long, their planning, manufacturing and selling entirely ecological made wood furniture have taken up the forms of the so-called " Callesella's Ecology Plan".
Features of the ecological soul of Callesella's wood-furniture are different, but all equally main points. Raw materials, much to begin: Pinewood from Sweden and European Cherrywood come only from zones being under controlled woodchopping and submitted to a strict ruling as regards reforestation. And then, the solutions for the finishes: inside Research & Development Department they have found a particular kind of oil extract from vegetables to be applied as "varnish". At the same time, during the whole cycle of production, all the other varnishes having part in the productive processes rank well below of the current standard the European Commission set as regards of " polluting emissions into atmosphere ".

Continental Paper SpA: recycled and of the same Ream

Recycled paper for photocopies? Neither to speak from it: doesn't pay, doesn't hold the ink......
First in Italy, Continental Paper, a company from Savona, not far from Genoa, is proving the contrary, instead: according to the Ecolabel European Standards, reams of sized A4 Ecocopia Plus ecological white paper by Continental Paper were certified to be suitable to work with photocopiers, laser and inkjet printers and faxes drives.
The Ecolabel mark certifies that the product contributes for the struggle against the water pollution, the overheating of the planet and against the sour rains, and that it favors the forests safeguard. Using recycled paper even for the photocopies has proved to widening the already well documented benefits tied to the use of recycled paper in an office: coming in the habit to use sheets of recycled paper means reduced immissions of polluting agents in atmosphere and brakes the inconsiderate run to unregulated trees woodchopping. From the sea of duplicates, triplex or fourfold copies much often uselessly produced every day at work in the private or public offices, it may finally emerge an island of wisdom. Next move is now up to blue collars, managers, teachers and students as they are paper first users, in an office, in a classroom or in a laboratory.

esse-ci : Why and How recycle discharge Lamps

Esse-ci, a company from Padua, that manufacture and market recessed and surface fixtures exploiting T5 and discharge lamps just opened the door to the environmental information on their website by bringing out some solutions to an apparently paradoxical situation.
Lamps
and fluorescent tubes, they allow in fact substantial savings of electric power but, at the same time they are able however to cause environmental deseases: in fact, broken lamps become dangerous because they contain mercury steams and high-pressure sodium . Once they have been introduced in the environment, this substances don't dissolve:due to this, anyone who has some spent T5 lamps, has to provide to their correct disposal. To properly eliminate this kind of lamps forget the garbage can, and refer to nothing but the waste centers, inserting them in proper wraps. As to recycling, they exist today new technology to select and put again in the productive processes all the components of the fluorescent lamps, mercurate and venom dusts included. Other types of lamps have to be sent to a treatment of recover specify according to the law, because their picking up and their recycling is however a duty much before that an obligation.

Schüco: Aluminium is the seventh Wave

Light, solid and corrosion-resistant, practical and long-lasting, easy to be moulded and to maintained. But, most of all, the beautiful thing of the aluminium is that, recycling it is a possible and worthwhile way. From the Schüco Italia web site, here comes the new, that Germany's Schüco International KG and their net of technicians, they have successful implemented a system to pick up and recycle the aluminium profiles of the gates and of the fixtures that will come replaced.
Know under the acronymus
A/U/F , the system article in an exact sequence of phases. It begins with the dismantlement of the old windows and goes on with their picking up; to this first two phases follows that of separation and recycling of all the not aluminium components, e.g. the glass, the steel, some plastics. The aluminium, once recovered and separated by the other components, is ready for a new extrusion: from here on, it starts a new cycle of production for new Schüco products. Side by side to Germany's Rewindo program for the recovering of old PVC made windows, Schüco's experience in non renewable raw material recycling as of the aluminium, proposes a concrete and realistic synthesis: on the one hand, it brakes the exploitation of non renewable raw materials and prevent precious materials to come to an end into incinerators; on the other, it makes a worth also for the business management. Infact, smaller raw material's costs of workmanship and transport are to contribute to maintain the competitive advantage, increase economy of scale and wide the possibility to better planning the work flow of Schüco's extrusion plants.

Fiam Airtools: Ergonomics all over the Assembly-Line

Either good or bad, ergonomics affect even the simpler gestures we are used to do on a common working day. We could obiouvsly let out of the item lists the paradoxes of the coffeepot* fitting lip and handle on the same side, but could not deny that an ergonomically correct approach at work really makes the difference, because on the road to win a major attitude for ergonomics, quality and safety always get together.
As we talk about systems and tools that equip work stations inside the assembly departments, some concrete evidences have been carrying out by Fiam Airtools. The based in Vicenza company, concretize their engagement for the ergonomics by endowing with an arm sized support that substains a pneumatic screwer, their original system capable of fixing 9 special screws on the front--end plastics grill of a motorvehicle. This solution, on the one hand assures that an operator's wrist, arm & shoulder on the assembly lines will cooperate and properly work together in a more confortable position, thus reducing operator's effort and weariness during the work, so that the operations safety can in consequence grow; on the other hand, this system maintains a perfect perpendicularity of the utensil, guaranteeing the correct entrance of the screw both improving the clamping speed and the quality of assembly.
Quality and safety are subsequently strengthened by the fact that the pneumatic screwer is self-fed and is favored with a system of torque control being able to instantanely and automatically halt airflow; that a laser sensors system verifies the correct completion of the screwing sequence, and, that, finally, a connected PLC underlines every possible anomaly during the whole assembly process.

Carraro: Total Quality & aimed Marketing to improve Performances and to reduce Wastes

In Japanese it is said muda, in English it sounds waste, those wastes of immaterial and natural resources that can erode part of the value a company can create.
Chosen for their axles and gear transmissions from companies like Caterpillar and Komatsu, Volvo and Mercedes, Carraro Group go on with their own peculiar ability to reduce and to optimize spaces, times, materials and energies in all areas of their manufacturing activities.
At Carraro, kanban/kamban techniques are habitually used in order to supply just in time the assembly units and in order to rationalize spaces on the assembly lines; management tools such as Q.F.D., Quality Function Deployment, or those for the preventive analysis of the critical points also strengthen the direct and continuous contact with consumers even during the prototypes development and testing.
This all contributes downsizing possible bottleneck, the number of test cycles, the possibilities of errors and misunderstandings and even go ahead of the planning phase: consistent economies of scale, time and material are also emerging from the fine tuning of axles and systems of transmission directly carried out on field. This kind of actions help to identify possible problems exactly in the point and in the moment in which they occur and, as a consequence, they take relevant part in modifying products and processes. In order to save resources, the benefits of a stabilized and on-going relationship with the customer can even be picked in the preparation of the technical documentation for him: when Carraro aftersale Servicing collaborate with the customer's staff in order to plan and to realize a sort of joint technical documentation (spare parts catalogues, repair handbooks). The way to the saving of natural resources can be seen also as an outcome of the will and the ability to innovate in the Quality Total and the Relational Marketing *.

Laverda against Hunger

They speak Italian and are also dressed in red, a littlejust like Ferrari cars; they don't race in the Formula 1, that is for sure, but in a sense they are in a competition too: the Laverda combine harvesters are playing a decisive role in the competition to defeat the hunger in West Africa.
Supported by 11 countries of the area and by the United Nations with no direct interventions on the plants genes but only crossing and interbreeding more of 300 kinds of African and Asian rice, the work of the researchers for the Association for the Ricecolture Development in western Africa resulted in a new variety of the Nerica rice, New Rice Africa., The experimental cultivation of the Nerica has been started on a large scale in Guinea: this kind of cultivation, that promises more resistance to parasites and to drought, increased production per hectare and a better protein contribution, puts back particular attention to the moment of the harvest. With this in mind, twelve Laverda combine harvesters are currently in action on field, under the guide of African personnel that have been fully trained in Breganze, in province of Vicenza, where Laverda have their home office. When they say that is better teaching people how to fish that giving people a fish......

Creating Energy-saving Ideas

Gechelin Group: filled up with Sun and Wind

Next time you ask yourselves, what help people sail or light up off-shore platforms and airports by night or during bad weather, take in mind that they could be high efficiency lamps fed with the sun, the wind and others of renewable energies; and also note that the remote systems checking the occurences for avalanches, or the microprocessor-driven generators and regulators being part of photovoltaic systems to desalinate and make water drinkable, can rely on sun and wind.
Gechelin Group over the past 25 years conceived and manufactured photovoltaics systems that substancially decreased energy costs for communities, missionsand hospitals in Africa an South America, fed cientific weather forecast stations, lighten up more 3000 road lamps, set up public phone polls, lightened and GSM equipped. Dont'you thinks this could be a pure prove that save energy and use susbstainable and renowable resources is a daily alive and kicking experience?

Tegola Canadese:A Roof that breaths

They were born in order to guarantee a healthy insulation of the roofs and the attics of the rooms: ventilated roofs and ventilated facades open new roads to energy saving all the seasons of the year long. The air flows that slide to the inside of roofs and ventilated facades help in fact to disperse the heat in summer and are a natural insulator in winter, with the effect to reduce expenses in order to heat and to naturally airconditioning our rooms.
The shingle is a fundamental dowel of a good roof or an efficient ventilated facade.
Tegola Canadese, the European leader in this type of production, draw their products from a compound made of glass fiber, natural bitumens and basalt granule. The outcome you can see under two points of view: on one hand, the shingle turns out smooth in shapes and richer in colours' choice and in the materials, like copper as an example; on the other hand the shingle is above all able to reduce of several degrees the of attics temperature in full sun and to maintain it constant to low external temperatures. A more energy efficent roofcover also recovers habitable spaces in the attics, because the lack of condenses phenomena and of mildews makes them more healthy and good to be living in.

AEG-LAFERT: a Motor for the 21ST Century

In the opinion of the swedish management scholar, Mr. Richard Normann, they can be seen as a true example of radical innovation: from air-conditioning to industrial automation, electric motors have brought substantial benefits in all the fields they have been applied to. Nowadays, electric motors are key component of hundreds of thousands complex and sophisticated toolmachines, although this option is no free of charge: electric motors need for increasingly amount of energy.
Coeteris paribus, despite their apparently higher prices in comparison to traditional motors, new electric high-efficiency motors allows substantial savings of energy ( till 40% in less ), and, as a consequence, of operating costs. The greater purchase price comes amortized more times and it engraves only for 1 % of the Total Cost of Ownership.
Beginning from the second half of 90's, when Lafert Group, the leading Italian electric motors manufacturer, started up producing their high-efficiency motors, their offer has constantly widened: AMHE is the name of the high-efficiency line inside of Lafert and AEG's product range.

 Managing cleaner Processes

Murano, Venice: Combustion fed with gaseous Oxigen and natural Methane Gas is
to set a cleaner Way to carve out Glass

In order to reduce the impact on the atmosphere of nitrogen oxide emissions, of carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons and PM's coming from from the furnaces, and in order to improve the energetic budget of the glass district on Murano island, near Venice, the experimentation of the combustion between gaseous oxygen and natural gas methane is currently under go: on the island of Sacca Serenella 5 glass manufacturers will act as first testers. Two years will they be necessary for the Glass Research Center ( Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro) to evaluate the qualitative, functional and environmental outcomes of the experimentation and finally give a technical ok to the the sponsors' plan, Venice Municipality, Artambiente and Sapio Group. If this will be happening, turning furnaces into combustion fed with oxygen could be extended to all artistic glass manufactures of Murano. Then, from the Sapio Marghera plant, a gallery will undercross the lagoon transporting gaseous oxygen to a reception center in the island of Murano and from here to the reconverted furnaces fed with both oxygen and natural gas.

Ceccato Compressors: a clever Breath

You can unveil its touch in the unusual and charming shape of a bottle or in that particular evanishing colour that makes a product look like no other: compressed air that feeds up machine tools, systems and automatic components is a corner stone to turn ideas and product concepts into a well apprecciated manufact.
Compressed air is a form of energy cleaner and surer, easier to carry and store, and more capable of flexibilizing production processes: nevertheless, it is not however a zero cost option.
As a matter of fact, wastes and ineffectivenesses affect the growing amount of electric power that has to feed the compressors. For example, it frequently happens on the assembly lines that, while the request for compressed air that comes from the work stations always stretches to vary, the electric power request for emploied to feed the pressers remain nearly constant. As a consequence, effects on the costs management are easy to imagine.
An ergonomically advanced and effective solution against the wastes of energy has been studied and produced from Ceccato: compared to a traditional compressor, when working half of its nominal load, the Carraro Multispeed Compressor series CSB halves the electric power consumption: in the meantime, this product has set new record in noise levels by using panels lined with deadening material, the addition of special traps against noise and a careful assemblying.

Tecnogamma: Railways Safety runs on a Laser Beam

Our perception of the world comes from two different points of view: our left an right eyes, can give us back a three dimensions vision of an object and this allows us keeping distances and set limits in an always changing and different environment. Beginning from this observation, Tecnogamma have come to the right intuition: an opportunely positioning of some lasers and high definition cameras can result in high resolution measurements without contact and in critical environmental conditions. This solution met wide acceptance within industry, first of all that one of the Railways
Transport of persons and assets on railways is in fact one of the yet practicable alternatives in order to save our cities and our health from the growing traffic waves, where, however, advanced standards on safety have to be always guaranteed indeed.
The control must therefore be capillary, both on the railways and on the vehicles.
So, for example, in monitoring the healthy state of a railway line to look for the corrugations that they alter the ideal rail profile, with an approximation range that goes from tenth to cent of millimeter, Tecnogamma measurement systems catalogue data on the undulations and hold under tightened observation geometries of the railroads. The dataflow sent to control structures can reach the 2000 acquisitions per second thanks to a parallel architecture of processors connected via optic fibers.
As regards the efficiency status of the vehicles, measurement about wheel profile, diameter and wear, the brakes and axles status and the profile of the vehicles are real time collected and processed by compact laser beam &-cameras systems needing a very simple installation at the track lateral side.
